Five-Star luxury living redefined at Ocean Club Resort
Ocean Club Resort has pioneered an innovative niche, creating a five-star lifestyle resort for active seniors that is the first of its type in the state.
“Ten years ago we had the idea of creating a vibrant younger retiree community where home-owners are encouraged to remain physically and socially active” says co-founder John Gilmour.
Today the Ocean Club Resort community has grown past 300, with an average age in the mid-60s.
Situated in the seaside village of Lake Cathie, just south of Port Macquarie, Ocean Club is a residential land lease resort, meaning that the only regular payment residents make is a single fortnightly fee to cover the lease of the land on which their property stands.
There is no stamp duty, deferred management fees, exit fees, or council rates.
The resort features architect-designed, energy-efficient homes where home-owners reside in spacious stand-alone houses with large outdoor areas – ideal for entertaining in the subtropical climate, judged Australia’s best by CSIRO.
Resort-style amenities include a palatial clubhouse which includes a private cinema, a 25-metre heated swimming pool and according to John Kennett (Ocean Club Bowls co-ordinator), “the best club-standard bowling green in the region.”
“Bowls is the most popular activity here because you don’t need to be an expert to have fun so every week we have more new bowlers turn up because they have heard about it through the grapevine,” says John.
Since its inception in 2013, Ocean Club Resort has gained a swag of awards for design and innovation including the Urban Design Institute of Australia (UDIA) 2014 award for Most Affordable Housing and 2011 Australasian Over 50s Housing Awards New Village Project.
Ocean Club Resort has homes available from $520,000. There are a choice of seven slab on-ground homes that are built without stairs. Each home offers two bedrooms and a multi-purpose room, and home-owners can choose various floor plans, garage size, flooring, fixtures and finishes.
“Buying a home at Ocean Club Resort is a bit like buying a Mercedes for the price of a Commodore,” says John Gilmour.
