New program bringing bowls and families back to Indooroopilly

Its been four years since a social bowls game has been played at Indooroopilly and it is now set to make a return thanks to the unique Fitter Futures business.

Fitter Futures, aims to not only get teens and younger children fit, but improve the wellness of the whole family.

The bowls club was controversially sold in 2004 to a development consortium, which built a new club house and greens in exchange for redeveloping the 13,000 sqm site.

Under mounting debt the club was forced to close in 2014.

Councillor James Mackay (Walter Taylor) also said he was delighted at the reactivation of the bowls club site after so many years.

The new facility is expected to open in school term 4.

Fitter Futures founder, Sam Mathers, said their existing site at the Sherwood AFL club was too small.

The move will give her space to build a gym, yoga space, infra-red sauna and indoor climbing/bouldering wall.

One of the synthetic greens will be for members but the public would be able to use one of the other greens, a cafe and a “chill-out’’ zone where children could do their homework while waiting for their parents to work out, or where adults could “hot desk’’ and work while their children got fit.
