Congratulations to UK pair Jamie Reynolds and David Leighfield for smashing the world record for longest marathon of indoor bowls singles with a new record of 32 hours. The Guinness World Record attempt “The longest marathon playing indoor bowls (singles)” took place on September, 14.
Jamie and five others attempted to break the pairs record two years ago, but unfortunately one of the participants became injured and the attempt was stopped. Although the team didn’t break the record, they still managed to raise over £10,000 for six different charities according to the Salisbury Journal.
“David and I decided that we would love to have a go at the singles record,” Jamie said.
“The record was 30 hours and was held by a pair in New Zealand,” he said.
“We both wanted to smash the record and bring it to the UK.
“We are both local to Salisbury with David being born and raised here and with me living here for 11 years now.
“We chose the Salisbury District Hospital as the recipient of our fundraising, as it is very close to our hearts.
“I spent time there when I was injured badly in 2009 and both my children were born there.
“The Salisbury Stars appeal do a fantastic job from the heart department to the children’s ward.
“David and I really wanted to give something back and this was our chance.”
